The New Guardhouse, East Berlin, July 1990.

The Neue Wache had originally been built as a royal guardhouse and memorial to the Wars of Liberation against Napoleon. By the time I photographed it, the building was still part of East Berlin and the GDR was less than three months from disappearing.
